The Epoch of Other Things is a 2022 solo exhibition by Taiwanese artist Wu Chi-Yu, focusing on articulating his recent creative approaches.

In response to exhibition themes such as “material and time” and the open-ended interpretation of “other things,” the visual design evokes templates reminiscent of late 20th-century technological artifacts—floppy disks, electronic components, and similar materials. These are combined with pillar-like forms symbolizing the collision of analog signals with material time, collectively constructing a “backgrounded” presence of a unified subject. Through the exhibition invitation, this design expresses a state of assembly between time and unidentified technological objects—a condition of resetting and hybridization.

(Excerpt from the TKG+ website)

Wu Chi-Yu believes that depictions of the contemporary world are governed by narrative and modes of writing, with humans positioned as interpreters. Yet the world’s appearance contains signals still waiting to be decoded. The interpretation of “other things” is not confined to a particular species or moment in time; rather, other things refer to a past that coexists with the present and the future.

From humans and non-humans, digital signals and natural ecologies, to planets and the cosmos, the artist employs layered metaphors to suggest that humans possess a broader perceptual scale—one that enables deeper understanding and reflection on the world they inhabit. The connections and exchanges between objects have never ceased.

The Epoch of Other Things Exhibition Catalog is a publication derived from Taiwanese artist Wu Chi-Yu’s 2022 solo exhibition at TKG+, focusing on his recent creative approaches and methods.

In response to exhibition themes such as “material and time” and the open-ended interpretation of “other things,” the visual design seeks to model a template evoking the impression of late-20th-century technological objects, such as floppy disks and electronic components. This is combined with pillar-like forms symbolizing the collision of analog signals with material time. These elements together form the exhibition’s main visual, which is extended across the book’s back cover and both front and endpapers.

Through this undefined void, the design expresses a sense of temporal and technological assembly, a hybridized, reset state where unidentified sci-fi-like objects converge with time itself.
